Nothing Phone 3a vs Nothing Phone 2a: Here is everything you need to know

Nothing launched the Nothing Phone 3a and 3a Pro on 4th March 2025. The phone is a successor to is succesful predecessor Nothing Phone 2a.

Here I’ll be a bit brief, as a full review is in preperation but till then read ahead.

What comes in the box:

The box contains the Phone 3a itself, below that is the white charging cable, the SIM ejector and the documentation. The box is better than what 2a had, and is easier to unbox. The phone comes with a screen protector pre applied. There is no charger in the box, nor any case.

The Looks and in-hand feel

The phone feels premium in hand with metal frame and a glass back, it is not as much of a fingerprint magnet as Phone 2a with the plastic back.

The new material feels much premium, the display is also good, although the bezels are thicker than phone 2a, which doesn’t seem good.

The Phone 3a has 3 cameras and the camera bump is bigger than 2a but the phone lays flat on a tablet and doesn’t wobble.

The phone has an essential key, which is very close to the power button but is more rounded, compared to the other keys being flat.

The cameras

The Phone 3a has a 50MP Samsung GN9 1/1.56″ Main, same as the Phone 2a, the ultrawide is an 8MP without AF, compared to the Samsung JN1 1/2.77″ 50MP with no AF on the Phone 2a.

The telephoto is a 1/2.74″ JN1/JN5 type. With no OIS, yes that is a big problem, but it is quite good.

Infact, more and more brands should put a telephoto lens on there phones, ditching the UW. (My openion).

The selfi camera is a Samsung KD1, it is smaller than the Phone 2a’s selfie, so you will notice it. Phone 2a’s selfie has more details compared to 3a but 3a has better processing.

Here are few comera samples:

The colour science is much improved compared to 2a but the selfie as I mentioned. They fixed the skin tones getting red. The telephoto is actually good and not worse than 1.9x digital zoom.

Overall, I like it but want the processing between 2a and 3a, not on both the ends.

It performs great in daylight, I’ll put night and low light shots soon.
