OPPO launched the OPPO Find N5 on 20th February 2025, the same day as the iPhone 16e launched.

Given that the majority of “mainstream” Samsung foldables are very thick, the foldable’s status as the thinnest book-style foldable in the world is already a feat. The weight, which is more equivalent to a slab phone, is the second thing they got right. Furthermore, the third aspect that stands out on numerous foldables is the crease. However, OPPO has significantly reduced this issue by incorporating their innovative titanium alloy 3D-printed hinge. The sacrifices and downgrades come next, though. However, I will start by outlining the specifications so you can get your mind around it.

Now, let me move to share my opinion.

My Take and Opinion:

I do appreciate its thinness and weight, as it is a lot closer to a slab phone than any other book-style foldable out there, which makes it easier to use for a person over the bulky ones. Then we come to the issues: the phone is slim, if you remember. That means thermal issues, performance throttling, and downgraded cameras with respect to the OPPO Find N3, which was their previous foldable.

The OPPO Find N3 brought a 5.8mm (unfolded) / 11.7mm (folded) thick foldable with a less noticeable crease, which was a great thing, as Samsung foldables had significantly worse creases.

The cameras were a 48MP (1/1.43″) main camera, a 64MP (1/2″) 3x periscopic telephoto, and a 48MP (1/2″) ultrawide camera. The outer front camera was a 32MP 1/3.14″ one, and the inner front camera was a 20MP 1/4″ one, which is much better than what Samsung offered, as well as the OPPO Find N5, which has an 8MP for both!

The ultrawide went from a 48MP 1/2″ to an 8MP 1/4″ type! 8MP ultrawide should be a crime on a $1000+ flagship; we can easily have a 50MP one, at the worst, the questionable Samsung ISOCELL JN1/5, which is a 50MP 1/2.76″ one.

OPPO Find N3 > OPPO Find N5 in terms of camera hardware, feeling like a proper flagship, but Find N5 is also good.

On a positive note, there are a lot of things improved too; let us dive into it.

The upsides

The OPPO Find N3 was like 11 mm thick; the Find N5 took that down to just 8.9 mm (both when folded), which feels much more like a normal slab phone. It might feel like a slab phone that happens to fold, as the weight is also reduced from 239 g/245 g to 229 g, which is much lighter and closer to a slab phone.

The crease is much less noticeable, which enhances the experience. The battery in foldables is a real problem; Samsung gives 4400mAh with 25W charging, which doesn’t last long or charge fast, compared to the OPPO Find N5 with a 5600mAh Si/C battery charging at 80W, which is much better!

Find N3 was 4805 mAh and 67 W fast charging and had no wireless charging. Find N5 has 50W AirVOOC wireless charging, a real upgrade; also, it is much faster than Samsung at 15W max and also faster than Samsung’s wired! Although Samsung has 4.5W reverse wireless charging, which is better than nothing on OPPO, yes, it charges a lot faster.

So:

Weight reduced: check.

crease reduced: check.

The phone is thin, like a slab phone, not too bulky: check.

Big battery and faster charging: check.

an 8.12″ display: check.

The outer/cover screen is wide enough to feel like a slab phone: check.

Now, that is a good foldable in my books, if you are fine with the downgrades.

If you put the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and OPPO Find N5 together, they will look and feel generations apart. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition/W25 (China) feels at least 1 generation behind for sure.
